This shouldn’t be a surprised if Mr. Haggard has been struggling with his sexuality for years… and he appears to be still trying to figuring it out.

As you read this new story, notice how the new leader of Haggard’s old church, New Life Church in Colorado, seems very concerned about protecting the church’s reputation… not so much about the young man (whom they gave some “compassionate” assistance to via $$) or even sparing Haggard any grief.

Excerpt:

Disgraced evangelical leader Ted Haggard’s former church disclosed Friday that the gay sex scandal that caused his downfall extends to a young male church volunteer who reported having a sexual relationship with Haggard – a revelation that comes as Haggard tries to repair his public image.

Brady Boyd, who succeeded Haggard as senior pastor of the 10,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, told The Associated Press that the man came forward to church officials in late 2006 shortly after a Denver male prostitute claimed to have had a three-year cash-for-sex relationship with Haggard.

Boyd said an “overwhelming pool of evidence” pointed to an “inappropriate, consensual sexual relationship” that “went on for a long period of time … it wasn’t a one-time act.” Boyd said the man was in his early 20s at the time. He said he was certain the man was of legal age when it began.

Later revealed in the article:

Boyd said he had spoken to the man once and came away with the impression that he was speaking out because of the documentary. “I think what caused this young man to be a bit aggravated was Ted being seen as a victim, when he himself had experienced a great deal of hurt,” Boyd said. “I seriously doubt this man would have come forward if the documentary had not been made.”

From a Jan. 2009 report:

“I think sexuality is confusing and complex,” Haggard said. “I am totally completely satisfied with the relationship with my wife now, but I went through a wandering in the wilderness time, and I just thank God I’m on the other side of that.” Asked whether he could define his sexual identity, Haggard said: “The stereotypical boxes don’t work for me. My story’s got some gray areas in it. And, of course, I’m sad about that but it’s the reality.”

From a Dec. 2007 report:

The Rev. Ted Haggard emerged from three weeks of intensive counseling convinced he is “completely heterosexual” and told an oversight board that his sexual contact with men was limited to his accuser.

Mr. Haggard can be truly delievered if he sincrely repents and faithfully seeks the LORD.

(Sigh..) Ted Haggard, the fallen pastor whose drug and gay sex habits were exposed not too long ago, has apparently gotten over it all and is getting his (new) mess together. The Christian Post excerpts an article from AP in which Mr. Haggard refuses to say plainly whether he’s a homosexual or heterosexual — but he and his wife are apparently still together. What’s more, the article makes it seem as if Mr. Haggard, in his conflicted sexual state, thinks all is well between him and the LORD. If that is the case, why does Mr. Haggard sound as if he perhaps condones homosexuality? In addition, he’s scheduled to appear on the “Oprah Winfrey Show”… and you know what that means.

And that quote on the left appeared about a month ago in another story on Haggard. It appears he may not have yet figured “what” he is.. and is still wrestling, fighting and arguing with the question of his sexuality.
