Leviticus 19:9-10 Comes To Life In This Troubling Economic Climate
It’s beautiful to see the LORD’s word manifest in the physical. It’s sad, however, to see the conditions under which they are manifest.
Leviticus 19:9 ‘When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not wholly reap the corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 And you shall not glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather every grape of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and the stranger: I am the LORD your God.
From AP via the L.A. Times:
A growing army of needy people and volunteers are descending on farms, fields and backyards across the nation in search of leftover produce that might otherwise go to waste.
The tradition known as gleaning has gone on for centuries, but pickers and organizers say the stakes are higher these days as families struggle against the recession and try to maintain healthy diets amid a national epidemic of obesity.

It’s stories like these that make it difficult to paint things as black and white… and for Christians most things are black and white when it comes to morality and ethics — either it lines up with the Holy Bible or it doesn’t. There is perhaps no moral issue more contested in the secular and religious than the issue of abortion.
