Video: Dr. Charles Stanley On GODly Living

By LaVrai, 5 July, 2009, No Comment

This video from InTouch Ministries’ the Rev. Dr. Charles Stanley is a blessing and a great aid to Christians concerned about walking faithfully with Christ Jesus.

“It’s becoming more and more unpopular to be a follower of Jesus Christ in our country. For example, it’s unpopular for you to say that your beliefs are according to the Word of GOD. And that you stand by those beliefs. It’s unpopular to say that this is GOD’s Word and our final authority for the way we ought to live and what we believe. It’s very unpopular to name the name of Jesus Christ in a public prayer, in a class room, often times in an office or wherever it might be. It’s becoming more and more unpopular to say that Jesus Christ is the only way even though that’s what the Bible says crystal clear when Jesus says I AM the way the truth and the life and no one comes to the FATHER but by ME. It’s more and more unpopular for us to refuse to agree with those who are living in sin, living a corrupted life, immoral, absolutely on the road to destruction. It’s becoming very unpopular. So what that says is this: we’re living in a society that desires and is working diligently to get all of us to agree. But to agree with the wrong thing on the wrong side.” – Dr. Charles Stanley

What do you do when you’re confronted with these things? Dr. Stanley offers some Biblical instructions in this two-part playlist (the second part will play automatically after the first), which is about 13 minutes long.

‘Do You Look Like Jesus?’

By LaVrai, 23 January, 2009, 4 Comments

holylandjesus

The title of the blog post “Do You Look Like Jesus” is in reference to a commercial I see once in a while on the religious channel for TBN’s The Holy Land Experience. The commercial’s announcer blurts out, “Do you look like Jesus?” and then starts a pitch for folks interested in playing parts at the Holy Land. Above, is a photo from their official Web site of one such actor who they apparently think looks like Jesus.

I could prattle off about how ridiculous it all is — since no one living today, nor anyone living then, took a photo of our LORD and SAVIOR Jesus Christ for us to even begin GUESSING what HE looks like. I could go on about why these folks portraying Jesus always have long hair (and the disciples usually have shorter hair)… where did all of this nonsense come from? And how about some of these false christs we have today… you notice that they, too, take on this man-made image of our LORD?

As I was considering the serious errors of these man-made idols of Christ Jesus, I realized that it is actually quite possible for all of HIS people to actually look like HIM. No matter our skin tone, eye color, hair texture, height, weight, etc. — we can look like Jesus. The Holy Bible does indeed provide a superbly detailed description our LORD and KING.

If you haven’t caught on yet, I am not speaking of HIS physical appearance when HE walked in flesh and blood among the people some 2,000e 2,000

years ago. I am speaking of the image HE left for HIS people to follow, so that we too, can resemble HIM… in character. For the LORD does not look at the outward appearance. It is the heart, the seat of our desires and intentions, that HE examines (Matthew 12:33-35Matthew 12:33-35

33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.

; 15:18-20). So what kind of image did HE leave for us to take on?

That Which The LORD Had Taken From Man HE Made Into A Woman

By LaVrai, 26 September, 2008, 4 Comments

Let me preface this post by stating: 1. there is no such thing as a “gay Christian;” 2. homosexuality is a sin; 3. any so-called Christian teaching otherwise is a liar, and delivering doctrine from the Devil.

This isn’t a post about hate or narrowminded ideas or what have you. This is a post about TRUTH and LOVE.

Is the LORD our GOD a GOD of chaos or a GOD of order? Isn’t the LORD our GOD a GOD of purpose and wisdom (the one from WHOM all wisdom comes)? What would be the purpose of GOD ordaining the existence of homosexuality and heterosexuality? Has anyone figured out yet, GOD’s supposed purpose for having two men or two women sexually join? With our LORD and GOD there is a purpose for everything, no? What was HIS purpose in creating the first man, Adam?

Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

… 15 Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

1. The Holy Scriptures say GOD put Adam in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. — Then what happened?

Gen 2:18Gen 2:18
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. meet...: Heb. as before him

WP-Bible plugin
And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” 19 Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

2. The Holy Scriptures say GOD decided that Adam needed a helper comparable to him — it’s not good for man to be alone.

3. The Holy Scriptures say GOD brought the animals HE had created to Adam for him to find a helper comparable to him among them — but there was no comparable helper for Adam of all the innumerable animals the LORD GOD had created.

Question: When we say comparable, don’t we mean equal to, similar in kind, sharing qualities, etc?

The Holy Scriptures say GOD saw that there were no animals of HIS creation equal to, similar in kind or sharing the qualities of Adam. So what does the LORD do?

Genesis 2:21Genesis 2:21
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

WP-Bible plugin
And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

23 And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.”

24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

4. Adam was pleased with this creation, which was very much equal to, similar in kind and shared more of his qualities than any of the animals the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY had created.

We then read in the Holy Scriptures what GOD ALMIGHTY ordained after this: that a man will leave his parents and be joined to a woman as wife, therefore forming a union acceptable to (and created by) GOD.

So what is this new union’s purpose?

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

5. In the Holy Scriptures we read that GOD blessed this union and instructed the pair to “be fruitful and multiply.”

Without referring to Paul’s epistle in which he informs readers through divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit that all kinds of sexual immorality is unclean before GOD — homosexuality included — and that those who practice any sexual immorality and die that way will be shut out of Christ Jesus’ Kingdom… Without highlighting the passages discussing the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah… Without commenting on the sins of the perverted Benjamites of Gibeah and their judgment…

Without looking at any of those other passages from the Holy Bible — but focusing only on GOD’s creation of the first man and woman — the beginning of each and every one of us, we see GOD’s purpose quite plainly, and the order HE ordained for our lives.

The LORD GOD ALMIGHTY made woman for man, and man’s only “comparable helper” is woman. What is more comparable to man than another man — if you really are looking for something to compare? But GOD showed that putting two men — exactly alike — had no purpose. That apparently wasn’t even an option, because GOD brought the animals HE had created to Adam first — and then went right into creating a woman. How can two men “be fruitful and multiply?” GOD ordained a “comparable helper” for man — not someone exactly like Adam, but someone who complimented Adam.

Acknowledging GOD’s sovereignty and power, wouldn’t our MOST COMPASSIONATE AND GRACIOUS GOD have given us knowledge on how HE feels about homosexuality… considering how it divides so many people today — people even in the church who promote the idea of a “gay Christian.” [If you've been reading the Holy Bible as you should, you know that the LORD our GOD doesn't leave anything for us to guess about... HE addresses every facet of our life and how we are required to walk, in the Holy Bible.]

And our gracious LORD GOD ALMIGHTY does show HIS views on homosexuality — and all kinds of sexual immorality. HE explains in the very Beginning, showing exactly what kind of union HE instituted and finds acceptable. We also see examples of HIS judgment of homosexuality. And we also read HIS decrees in Leviticus against homosexuality (Lev 20:15-16Lev 20:15-16
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

15 And if a man lie with a beast, he shall surely be put to death: and ye shall slay the beast. 16 And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

; Lev 18:22-23Lev 18:22-23

22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.

) . HE even re-iterates it in the New Testament in Paul’s writings.

THE LORD GOD our CREATOR  didn’t leave us guessing. Just because we feel a certain way, that doesn’t mean it’s OK to act on our feelings.  It’s even a sin to have inappropriate thoughts (as Christ Jesus explains) and those, too, call for repentance.

Open your eyes and read the LORD’s Holy Scriptures — HE states many times in simple language for us — homosexuality is a sin, as is all sexual immorality. HE didn’t give one example of homosexual activity that HE approves of. Not one. This is mankind’s idea — as usual, twisting or ignoring the Holy Scirptures to make them bend to our sinful desires, instead of us submitting to the FATHER’s will. Homosexuality is a sin. The penalty of sin is death. But there is Salvation and redemption in Jesus Christ of Nazareth. You don’t believe that Jesus Christ can and will pluck out every unrighteous thing in your life if you submit to HIM and ask HIM?

Surely HE will, and that’s why HE died on the cross — to make us accpetable to the FATHER by atoning for our sins. Seek Jesus Christ of Nazareth in sincerety, and HE will answer. Truly HE lives.

‘GOD Cares About Your Heart, Not Your Skimpy Clothes’

I came across this article about how folks dress when they go to worship the LORD. Some are of the idea that it is indeed important to dress “properly” when going to church, while some say it’s not so important if you’re wearing cut-off jeans, flip-flips and a t-shirt to go fellowship with the saints. The writer speaks to folks of different congregations.

Excerpt:

Rev. Joseph Ganiel, pastor of St. James parish in Ventnor, N.J., doesn’t turn the underdressed away. But he has had it, he said, with tank tops and flip-flops and short shorts and naked navels.

“I think people should dress in accord with the dignity of the mass,” he said, explaining why he now posts a summer dress code in the parish bulletin.

“Casual wear IS NOT APPROPRIATE,” his dress code declares, “for the joyful but formal atmosphere of worship.”

But a Philadelphia woman in a jogging suit, escorting two teenage boys in shorts and T-shirts into St. Frances Cabrini Church in Ocean City, N.J., scoffed at the idea of a dress code for church.

“I think God cares about what’s in your heart,” said the woman, who declined to give her name. “Not what you wear.”

The World Thinks I Am A Fool – Thank GOD!

By LaVrai, 6 September, 2008, 2 Comments

This post is an excerpt from my very young Bible Study Blog, The Word For A Young Christian. It was posted previously, but when my database got zapped, it disappeared from LaVrai.COM, so here it is again.

1 Corinthians 4:9-131 Corinthians 4:9-13
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

9 For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men. us...: or, us the last apostles spectacle: Gr. theatre 10 We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised. 11 Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; 12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: 13 Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

WP-Bible plugin

9 For I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last, as men condemned to death; for we have been made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and to men.

10 We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!

11 To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and we are poorly clothed, and beaten, and homeless. 12 And we labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure; 13 being defamed, we entreat. We have been made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things until now.

As a young Christian woman, I find it curious sometimes when I consider what is supposedly ‘normal’ for a person of my age group and gender living in America. Of course, I wasn’t very different from my peers before I gave myself over completely to the LORD Jesus Christ, and HE showed me exactly what Salvation is about and what life is worth.

Based on previous experiences and observations, I know, for example, the typical weekend for a young person consists of going out to a club or bar with friends and acting a little wild to blow off steam from a week of work (or studies). Some ‘harmless’ party drugs might come into play. A random make-out (or hook-up) session will most likely happen. Guys will wear a simple top (button-up, nice shirt, etc.) and jeans or khakis; girls will wear something with straps, that doesn’t completely cover their stomachs and tight, low-cut jeans (to expose even more of what’s beneath the belly button) or a mini-skirt (even in winter). All in all, the guys look comfortable; the girls look like they’re using their bodies to bait something.
