CNN Guest: Church/Religion To Blame In Bullied Boy’s Suicide

An 11-year-old boy committed suicide last week after complaining for months about being bullied at school, according to his mother. The boy, Carl Joseph Walker, was reportedly called all kinds of gay slurs by these bullies. His mother apparently did all of the right things — she contacted the school, took part in PTOs, etc. As she said on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360, everyone in that school knew her name.

The other guest on the show, Mel White, author of  “Religion Gone Bad”, a homosexual and supposedly a pastor, was asked what the root of the problem is in such aggressiveness and bullying against children perceived to be gay (despite the fact that children are bullied for just about any reason, and this little boy’s mother says he wasn’t gay).

White starts in saying churches and religion are to blame. That if churches and the pope didn’t teach all of these hateful, negative things, then these things wouldn’t be happening. He then went on to say something about religion needing to change. That is, Christians should stop preaching and practicing the Truth and put GOD’s Will out of our minds and just live and let die… and go to hell I suppose.

Here’s a transcript from the program aired last night: Read the rest of this entry »

Holy Mavericks: T.D. Jakes, R. Warren, J. Osteen, P. White & B. McLaren

Holy Mavericks: Evangelical Innovators and the Spiritual Marketplace by Shayne Lee

"Holy Mavericks: Evangelical Innovators and the Spiritual Marketplace" by Shayne Lee

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I clicked on a link about a Tulane sociologist’s new book on the “spiritual marketplace,” which the author “examines the success of five pastors who are among the most influential contemporary leaders in American Protestantism.” Now, the author wasn’t involved with a theological analysis of these fine folks; he was more interested in seeing how it is they draw such massive crowds and are so wealthy. If you’ve been paying attention, I suppose you may know exactly what it is these “religious suppliers” T.D. Jakes, Rick Warren, Joel Osteen (on the cover), Paul White and Brian McLaren have so very much in common… Read the rest of this entry »

Man Survives Apparent Fatal Gunshot Wound To Head; Pope John Paul II Gets Credit

This is a strange story. A young man was shot in the head execution style during a mugging about a month ago. Doctors informed his family that he would surely die, but miraculously, the 26-year-old survives… and who gets the praise? Certainly not GOD. We are to assume/ hope, based on this particular write-up, that the family and the young man and the priest mentioned attribute the healing to GOD… but HIS name is never mentioned… so that assumption may just be wrong. However, dead Pope John Paul II is getting the credit, with the priest and the young man quite certain that the dead man was interceding for him with prayers… Read the rest of this entry »

Media Accused Of Giving Sarah Palin’s Strange, NAR Dominionist Religion A Pass

Talk2Action co-founder Bruce Wilson did some digging into Sarah Palin’s religious background last fall and documented some rather disturbing information. I am glad, actually, that the mainstream media glossed over this (they probably didn’t know how to handle it)… it probably would have embarrassed Christians even more than we’ve been embarrassed (with these so-called gay born-again Christians and Christians all in favor of abortion, etc.). Anyway, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is no “ordinary” Christian, it would seem. This is just a snippet, please follow the links after the excerpt to get a fuller picture. Read the rest of this entry »

Episcopal Divinity School’s New Dean: ‘Abortion Is A Blessing’

(Jon Chase for the Boston Globe)

The Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge elected Dr. Katherine Ragsdale as the school’s sixth president and dean. In the letter sent out to alumnae, the chair of the board starts the letter with “My Dear Friends in Christ…”

This is just mind blowing. Not only does Dr. Ragsdale say abortion is a blessing, but she also calls abortion doctors and those who actively work to keep this murderous practice going “heroes.” And these statements of hers were delivered during a  sermon, mind you. Read the rest of this entry »
