A round-up of noteworthy posts and articles that edify, inform and ecourage that I have recently come across while browsing the Webs. What’s included: “The Shack” author’s view on the Gospel, debating the meaning of the Gospel, the “love offering” of the prosperity gospel, being content with what GOD provides HIS people, an analysis of the kind of history the U.S. may be repeating, using aborted babies as organ donors, the Obamas trying to find the “right” Christian church and a young Muslim convert pens her horrific upbringing in Britain.

A round-up of interesting news stories and posts I’ve recently come across…

Interesting quotes: “If churches embracing the principle of Sola Scriptura (by Scripture alone) fail to understand and address the concerns voiced in the Emerging Church conversation, we may lose an entire generation of professing believers…” | “”If the Emerging Church eventually defines Christ’s church, then the church as Christ defined it will be no more…” | “”While we should applaud and apply much of its content, we must also confront that it is moved along by an old philosophical wind which ever threatens to wrest Christ’s church from the foundation of her faith – the written Word of God,…”

Mr. Brown seems to be a Bible-reader, too… “Or we could view the threats and challenges we face today as the difficult birth pangs of a new global order, and our task now as nothing less than making the transition through a new internationalism to the benefits of an expanding global economy, not muddling through as pessimists but making the necessary adjustment to a better future and setting new rules for this new global order.”

  • The Evangelical Alliance apparently sent President Obama a Bible when they heard he couldn’t find one for his second swearing-in at the White House. I thought the Holy Bible was a Christian’s pillow, food, water, air, etc. Anyhoo, the Bible these folks sent him is the Poverty and Justice Bible. It emphasizes about 2,000 passages reflecting GOD’s view on poverty and justice. Perhaps should send our president a Bible that highlights man’s wretched state and GOD’s solution… oh wait..

A round-up of interesting posts/articles found across the Internets (thanks, President Bush) and the blogosphere.

  • Let me start of with this short excerpt from a Paul Washer sermon in which the pastor comments on coming persecution of Americans (originally “aired” Oct. 2008)…

Now, consider this excerpt from a Rick Warren “sermon” from April 2005, in which he prompts his Saddleback congregants to follow Jesus like Nazis followed Hitler…

I’d like to hold my peace, but isn’t this how Satan does it — dress it up like it’s holy and righteous but all the while it’s meant to put you in bondage?

  • A congressman (and Baptist) who once called President-elect Barack Obama Marxist, joined two others in anointing the doorway in the U.S. Capitol building which Obama will walk through on Jan. 20 on his way to the inaugural platform. The trio’s reason: “We used oil today to set apart the walkway and doors that will be the literal right of passage for Barack Obama as he ascends to the highest office in our land.” - Obama’s Inauguration Day Walkway ‘Anointed’
  • There is an amazing testimony from a woman who has been struggling with her unsaved husband for years; one day she finally let go and let GOD, and of course, the LORD our GOD did what HE does in HIS own time. Please read the testimony post at Alan’s site – An encouraging testimony for those who have unsaved spouses
  • Have you heard about the “pastor” who essentially teaches pornography and sex to Christians? That’s how those who have been paying attention to Mark Driscoll describe his “ministry.” And if this NY Times feature’s introduction on him is any indication, the critics are absolutely right: “Mark Driscoll’s sermons are mostly too racy to post on GodTube, the evangelical Christian “family friendly” video-posting Web site. With titles like “Biblical Oral Sex” and “Pleasuring Your Spouse,” his clips do not stand a chance against the site’s content filters.” We must not make room for compromise or shrug things off thinking others will pick up the fight… if you say you love and follow Christ Jesus of Nazareth, then it is your fight too. Read the press release Enough Is Enough and the NY Times article Who Would Jesus Smackd Down? and scroll through Miriam’s post to see some detailed examination of Driscoll’s perverted teachings.
  • And where is all this sex talk coming from or leading to? The Canadian newspaper article titled “Sex Brings Christians Closer to God” reports the growing acceptance of tantric sex. Chuck MacKnee, a professor at Trinity Western University (an evangelical school in British Columbia), has been researching and writing about “spiritual sex” (a Christian version of tantric sex), since the 1990s. MacKnee believes that “ultimately in sex we’re going to meet God”; he says that “humans’ relationship with God is essentially erotic.” The Sun article observes that evangelicals who, like MacKnee, are “teaching about spiritual sex are in some ways catching up with Eastern-influenced New Age spirituality.” - Tantra Sex: Evangelicals Catching Up with New Agers? @ From the Lighthouse
  • The Obama inauguration camp won’t just be having Saddleback’s Pastor Rick Warren and gay “bishop” Vicki Gene Robinson praying at the event on Jan. 20. Now a Muslim and some rabbis (representing various sects) will be saying prayers as well. Even if you have no intention to watch the inauguration, please consider saying prayers of your own… that the LORD our GOD doesn’t destroy us in one day. – Muslim woman, rabbis to pray at inaugural service
  • Did you know that there are certain sins that only Pope Benedict XVI (or whomever sits on Satan throne at the time) can forgive? The Vatican’s Apostolic Penitentiary is revealing how they work after centuries of keeping their secrets…secret… “Defiling the Eucharist, which Catholics believe is the body and blood of Christ, is among several sins that can be forgiven only at the highest level, officials said. Yet confessions of crimes the general public may consider even more serious, including genocide and serial murder, can be dealt with by local priests or bishops.” - Vatian revels sins only Pope can forgive
  • College football player Tim Tebow apparently got flack for wearing his Christian faith on his sleeve…or, er, under his eyes – The GOD Blog’s Tim Tebow is sining against the NCAA
