Are you familiar with the Parable of the Sower Jesus Christ told to HIS disciples? In it the LORD compares the Gospel to a seed, the sower to the preacher/teacher of the Gospel and the ground on which the seed falls is compared to those who hear the Word.
The Christian walk can be a very difficult road — as it should be since we are not of this world. Christians face temptations daily, as well as rejection and ridicule for having the nerve to believe that GOD is real and that HIS name is I AM WHO I AM. Many of us across the world are killed for professing faith in Jesus Christ as Savior. We go to work with unrepentant sinners, Christian teens/kids are hammered every day at school with all kinds of worldly junk and what’s worse — many of us Christians just can’t get along with each other.
I just want to ask you, brothers and sisters, is the ground on which the seed fell still fertile? Or has your heart been hardened to the point of callousness? Do you still have that first love you did when you fell in love with Jesus? Or have you been ’sitting’ on your faith and saying ‘Oh well’ for the rest of the world? Please re-read the Parable of the Sower and make sure you are good ground.
Mark 4:1-20 (New King James Version)
3 “Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. 4 And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it. 5 Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. 6 But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away. 7 And some seed fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8 But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.” 9 And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
13 And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables? 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are the ones by the wayside where the word is sown. When they hear, Satan comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their hearts. 16 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble. 18 Now these are the ones sown among thorns; they are the ones who hear the word, 19 and the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. 20 But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”
You’ve heard it been told in marriages that sometimes a couple just needs to rekindle that spark to help revive and keep the marriage alive and going. It’s not like the man and woman have stopped loving each other, but sometimes the cares of this world poses stumbling blocks for some relationships and a little TLC is needed to smooth things out. Perhaps we should take evaluation once in a while of our relationship with the LORD. When was the last time you said thank you, Jesus, for waking me up this morning? Or, thank you, Jesus, for blessing me with an income? Or thank you, Jesus, that I do not live in a war zone, disaster area or in a land of persecution?
I am not saying to go out and buy a new Holy Bible or sign up for a ministry, which you’ll only lose interest in later. What I am saying is, make some special time for GOD. Go into your prayer closet and talk with HIM — don’t ask HIM for stuff, but just tell HIM how much you love HIM. Write HIM a letter, sing HIM a song… tell a friend about how HE holds you up everyday and holds your hand to lead you through the rough spots.
Do you know what I mean?
So, let me follow my own word and say, “Thank you, LORD, for loving me. I pray that you keep my love from going cold and let me never forget your sacrifice and gift, Christ Jesus, or to take anything for granted. Let me treat each one I encounter with love and compassion, as I would want to be treated, but never let me give the Devil an audience. Increase my faith, LORD Jesus, and fill me with boldness so that I will never be ashamed to declare my love for YOU. Amen.”
