This story is about a religious community in Alabama that encourages people of the faith (in the broad, plural sense) to take 1 Corinthians 6:19 to heart by keeping one’s body healthy and physically fit. It seems like an OK idea in the beginning, but the an almost mystical feel comes over the whole movement, especially when a gym owner says of his establishment: “The environment we present is very spiritual.” [Keep reading...]

Stories like these — where we get to praise GOD for working in the lives of HIS people — are always encouraging…and gives much-needed reprieve from the violent, catastrophic news stories of the day. And, please, no ‘Jesus is our co-pilot’ jokes…
It seemed like an almost literal answer to their prayers. When two New Zealand pilots ran out of fuel in a microlight airplane they offered prayers and were able to make an emergency landing in a field — coming to rest right next to a sign reading, “Jesus is Lord.”
Grant Stubbs and Owen Wilson, both from the town of Blenheim on the country’s South Island, were flying up the sloping valley of Pelorus Sound when the engine spluttered, coughed and died. [Keep reading...]

I like to be cautious when approaching stories that seem to fall into the Bible prophecies given for the end of this generation (yes, I believe we are that generation). Consider this article (and nothing on their site indicates these are Christian authors):
Fingerprints are considered to be among the most personal of information, and fingerprint databases created and proposed in the name of national security have generated much debate. Recently, “Server in the Sky” — a proposed international database of the fingerprints of suspected criminals and terrorists to be shared among the U.S., U.K. and Canada — has ignited a firestorm of controversy. As have cavalier comments by Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff that fingerprints aren’t “personal data.”
Yet earlier this week, a measure creating a federal fingerprint registry totally unrelated to national security passed a U.S. Senate committee almost without notice. The legislation would require thousands of individuals working even tangentially in the mortgage and real estate industries — and not suspected of anything — to send their prints to the feds. The database and fingerprint mandates were tucked into housing and foreclosure assistance bills that on Tuesday passed the Senate Banking Committee by a vote of 19-2. [Keep reading...]

My initial knee-jerk reaction was to title this post, ‘What’s wrong with the Catholic church?’ because, really, what is wrong with the Catholic church! I really shouldn’t be too surprised the Vatican wants people to embrace science and the theories of man over the Truth of GOD ALMIGHTY, but the explanation given in this article is just so obviously duplicitous.
The Vatican is planning a special conference in 2009 to mark the 150th anniversary of the publication of The Origin of the Species, Charles Darwin’s groundbreaking theory of evolution.
First printed in November 1859, Darwin’s evolutionary theories rocked the faith of Victorian Christians and are stoutly contested today by Creationists. The Vatican has traditionally backed a more nuanced approach. Three years ago, Cardinal Paul Poupard, the then president of the Pontifical Council for Culture, said Darwin’s theory of Evolution and the Old Testament book of Genesis were “perfectly compatible” if the Bible were correctly read, saying: “The fundamentalists want to give a scientific meaning to words that had no scientific aim,” explaining that the real message in Genesis was that “the universe didn’t make itself and had a creator.”
Next year’s conference will be held in Rome and organised by Poupard’s former office, the Pontifical Council for Culture as well as by the University of Notre Dame and six pontifical universities. The event, claim its organisers, is a milestone in the rapprochement between science and the Church. They say it is time for the Church to look at Evolution again, “from a broader perspective”, explaining “appropriate consideration is needed more than ever before.” [Keep reading...]

This story from the Charleston Daily Mail is rather remarkable: Velma “Val” Thomas was panic-stricken early Saturday when she awoke with the typical signs and symptoms of a heart attack.
As she lay alone in her bed, the thud of her heart got weaker and more painful, her desperate breaths shallower.
Val, 59, an employee of Chesapeake Energy, had a mild heart attack about 10 years ago. But this time seemed different.
After calling 911 about 1:30 a.m., she called her son and did her best to explain her frantic situation.
Fearing the worst, Tim Thomas, 36, got dressed and bolted out the front door of his Winfield home and headed to his mother’s place in Nitro. He told his wife, Stefanie, to stay on the line with Val and try to keep her calm but alert.
Stefanie tried but was unsuccessful.
Val went into cardiac arrest after only a few minutes.
When medics arrived and kicked in her front door, they ran upstairs and discovered her lying face down on the floor with no pulse.
It took about eight minutes of CPR and the use of a defibrillator before they finally were able to establish a very faint pulse.
Tim had arrived, too, but could only watch in horror.
Little did he know that what he was feeling so far would pale in comparison to the range of emotions he would experience over the next few days.
Val would go into cardiac arrest two more times. Family members would make the heart-wrenching decision to take her off life support. They would say their goodbyes, watch the life seem to leave her body and leave her bedside to prepare for her funeral.
Then they would get the unbelievable news that Val was alive. [Keep reading...]

Hello.
Can you recommend any books related to the Christian faith? I would like to expand my reading a bit, so I welcome both fiction and non-fiction works, as I am primarily looking for encouragement and edification. Just thinking about walking into Barnes and Noble and heading to their ‘religious’ section gives me a headache because I wouldn’t know where to begin.
I am looking for the ‘classics’ or foundational works, too, so please let me know what some of your favorite, most uplifting, educational, etc. books are. Thanks in advance.

I found this video at Word And Verse and, as usual with Paul Washer, the subject matter is timeless and timely.

Apparently, the Holy Bible is wrong. Members of the Body of Christ don't even need to know the LORD's name. They don't need to know that Jesus Christ is the only means of Salvation. They can just live a good life and meet Jesus later, when they die and go to heaven.
