I found this video at Word And Verse and, as usual with Paul Washer, the subject matter is timeless and timely.

I’ve long been convinced that, for American Christians, it’s far more difficult to live for Christ Jesus than to die for Him. We are so covetous - and we rationalize our selfishness - our idolatry - by observing that we spend less than others or we buy fewer gadgets, or that our $40,000 car is necessary for our kids. Pastors driving $50 SUVs to $7M sanctuaries, talking about God’s love for mankind. Sometimes sin will be mentioned, but never the sin of materialism or the cult of covetousness.
We’re NOT losing it - we’ve lost it already, by and large. What the church needs is repentance. If the pastors don’t preach repentance, the church will grow cold.
Hello, Mr. Brogden. I think I will have to agree w/ you on this — I really can’t recall ever having heard a sermon about the dangers of materialism or covetousness, which are two dangerous things many of us seem stricken with the most… which also plays into selfishness…which, of course, goes back to lack of love and compassion. We live in a very ‘me’ and ‘I have to have’ culture. –LaVrai
