Orthodox Jewish Youths Burn Bibles

Just seeing the headline on this story made me want to do as this little girl in the photo is doing. This is just madness. Are they going to start demanding Christians and Messianic Jews be handed over to the state for execution?

Orthodox Jews set fire to hundreds of copies of the New Testament in the latest act of violence against Christian missionaries in the Holy Land.

Or Yehuda Deputy Mayor Uzi Aharon said missionaries recently entered a neighborhood in the predominantly religious town of 34,000 in central Israel, distributing hundreds of New Testaments and missionary material.

After receiving complaints, Aharon said, he got into a loudspeaker car last Thursday and drove through the neighborhood, urging people to turn over the material to Jewish religious students who went door to door to collect it.

The books were dumped into a pile and set afire in a lot near a synagogue, he said.

The Israeli Maariv daily reported Tuesday that hundreds of Jewish religious school students took part in the book-burning. But Aharon told The Associated Press that only a few students were present, and that he was not there when the books were torched. Not all of the New Testaments that were collected were burned, but hundreds were, he said.

He said he regretted the burning of the books, but called it a “commandment” to burn materials that urge Jews to convert.

“I certainly don’t denounce the burning of the booklets,” he said. “I denounce those who distributed the booklets.”

Jews worship from the Old Testament, including the Five Books of Moses and the writings of the ancient prophets. Christians revere the Old Testament as well as the New Testament, which contains the ministry of Jesus.

Calev Myers, an attorney who represents Messianic Jews, or Jews who accept Jesus as their savior, demanded in an interview with Army Radio that all those involved be put on trial. He estimated there were 10,000re 10,000

Messianic Jews, who are also known as Jews for Jesus, in Israel.

Police had no immediate comment.

Israeli authorities and Orthodox Jews frown on missionary activity aimed at Jews, though in most cases it is not illegal. Still, the concept of a Jew burning books is abhorrent to many in Israel because of the association with Nazis torching piles of Jewish books during the Holocaust of World War II.

Earlier this year, the teenage son of a prominent Christian missionary was seriously wounded when a package bomb delivered to the family’s West Bank home went off in his hands.

Last year, arsonists burst into a Jerusalem church used by Messianic Jews and set the building on fire, raising suspicions that Jewish extremists were behind the attack. No one claimed responsibility, but the same church was burned down 25 years ago by ultra-Orthodox Jewish extremists. (Source)

You know, such stuff really doesn’t worry me a bit. Doesn’t God have the habit of being strong where we see only weakness and turning worldly defeat into spiritual victory?

If folk burn Bibles some people who have never read it get curious as to it’s message. We also have publicity for the Bible and a form of Christian persecution and of course we just print more Bibles!

HI, MARC! GLAD YOU STOPPED BY. I DON’T THINK THEY ARE HURTING ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES BY DOING THIS… BECAUSE IT IS WRITTEN ‘EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW AND EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS…’ ‘THEY WILL LOOK UPON HIM WHOM THEY HAVE PIERCED…’ MARC, YOU KNOW HOW YOU FELT ONCE YOU REALLY GOT SAVED AND REALIZED THE WORTHLESS LIFE YOU MAY HAVE BEEN LIVING BEFORE…? REMEMBER HOW ASHAMED YOU WERE OF THESE THINGS THAT KEPT YOU FROM THE KINGDOM? WELL, THAT’S MY CONCERN… THEY WILL FEEL SO ASHAMED AND SO UNWORTHY WHEN ALL IS REVEALED. AND THE THING THAT KILLS ME… EVEN THOUGH THEY DESPISE WHAT THE NAZIS DID WITH THEIR HOLY BOOKS, THEY WERE ABLE TO GO BEYOND THAT LINE AND DO AS THE NAZIS DID. WHERE IS THE SHAME, WHERE IS THE GUILT FOR THAT…? — LAVRAI.

It makes me doubly sad that these Jews, whom Christ Jesus came first to save, are rejecting Him in such manner. If they had indeed studied their Scripture, they’d recognize that Christ IS the Messiah!

YES, ISAIAH. I HEAR WHAT YOU’RE SAYING… GOD’S FIRST BORN, REJECTING HIM EVEN UP UNTIL NOW AND RIGHT ON TO THE VERY END, IF THE SCRIPTURES REALLY MEAN THAT ONLY A REMNANT WILL BE SAVED… A REMNANT… FROM A PEOPLE AS NUMEROUS AS THE STARS…? I THANK GOD FOR HIS MERCY AND PATIENCE AND GRACE.

I agree 100% with the strong response by the orthodox community. Jews do not try to convert people. They have no missionaries. They don’t try to ’spread’, they simply want to enjoy their values at nobody’s expense but their own. People throwing the Nazi book burning references around like a Frisbee should be ashamed. That’s a disgustingly low blow.

Why do other denomination act so cancerous? Because deep down they know they are wrong and instead of merit of success weighing in on knowledge of the creator they blindly recruit to compensate. All major modern religions are spawns from Judaism. But they pollute the teachings, the biggest point you learn in the old testament is that there is only 1 G-d. Worshiping a man or a holy ghost or a moon goddess is blasphemy. I wouldn’t burn a book personally, but I’m not as fanatical as Orthodox Jews are. How would other religious fanatics like those of Islam respond? Have some perspective for crying out loud.
