. Thousands of Orthodox pilgrims took part today in processions in nearby Jerusalem along the Via Dolorosa, the route where according to tradition Jesus Christ carried the cross during his last days. Christian Orthodox believers are marking the holy week of Easter around the world.

I guess these Palestinians were evangelized by the Catholic Church…

That’s your only comment? “I guess these Palestinians were evangelized by the Catholic church?” The statue has a traditionally Catholic aesthetic, but perhaps that’s what drew the attention of the photographer. Something familiar, in an otherwise unfamiliar context.

    Here’s more on Palestinian Christians:

I didn’t know for sure until I found a citation, but only about a third are Catholic (or “Catholic Rite.”) Most of the rest are Eastern Orthodox.

Trying to understand ANY Eastern Christians, on the basis of their artwork, or apparent aesthetic, reminds me of that scene in the last “Indiana Jones” movie, in which that lizard in the light blue suit attempts to identify the “cup of the Carpenter,” but chooses “unwisely.” The dark-haired fellows with the cross tattoo’s on their chests, that Indy first ran across in Venice, are (hopefully) more representative of Eastern Christians. Their lineal descendents were most likely “evangelized” before there were separate “Eastern” and “Western” churches.
